So, the guys at GOA at last did it and those who have ordered collector’s editions were able to start his WAR journeys on Sunday and those with preorders (including me) on Monday. As boxed edition was still not released – the only possibility was to use Open Beta client (around 9 GB download) with around 800 MB patch to download after first login. Anyway for this this time everything went smoothly – patch download, server selection, character creation and overall gameplay.

I spent all Monday’s evening on playing it and it looks very promising. The overall game play experience is very good – it is mostly PvP oriented game (Player versus Player) comparing to WoW that is mosty PvE oriented (Player versus Environment). I simply didn’t not like PvP in WoW but in WAR you have the feeling that your effort counts. There is war everywhere, between Order and Chaos. As we play on Open RP server – danger lurks everywhere. Everything is new, is fresh and is very nice.

The UI is very similar to World of Warcraft. Everything that was good in WoW was ported to WAR. There are some great additions like Tome of Knowledge that keeps all LORE knowledge together, nice guild panel, very nice maps with all hot points on them and so on and so on.

Three leveling areas – character (PVE), renown (RVR) and Guild makes the gameplay even more interesting. At least guild is not only a common chat like in WoW. Guild has its own level and this level does allow to get some bonuses.

Overall the game is very promising and in my humble opinion it can be real competitor to WoW, even if it is more PvP (RvR in WAR language) oriented.

I’ve prepared a small gallery from my gameplay, you can find it there.

Just after my return I’ve read a lot o posts on KotE guild forum regarding the Open Public Beta of the Warhammer Online game, the only hope of MMORPG community to be able to compete with World of Warcraft (after Age of Conan problems). Anyway the beta of WAR has ’started’ on this Sunday and it has failed on the very beginning. It is not a game or game servers were dead. It was a web infrastructure of GOA company who provides WAR infrastructure for the Europe. People weren’t able to register, to enter their codes, to get confirmation e-mails and thus were unable to play. It leads to a dramatic message from a GOA’s CEO at 3 AM with apologies for the customers. Anyway, my folks were able to run this game just on yesterday’s evening (it is more than 50 hours after launch) and still some of them are not able to log-in because of missing confirmation e-mail.

It is a real stress test, no doubts about that :)

Anyway I hope that all problems will be solved and Warhammer will become real competitor for World of Warcraft. Good luck Mythic & GOA.
