Today I’ve met small problem with my beloved TortoiseSVN client. I was in need to access some old repository stored locally on my computer – for newer projects I’m usingdedicated Debian based SVN server. Anyway, trying to access to my local repository via TortoiseSVN has resulted with following message:

Failed to load module for FS type 'bdb'

After quick Googling it appeared that from branch 1.6.x, TortoiseSVN doesn’t support local file:/// repositories based on BDB and they need to be converted to new FSFS format using ‘svnadmin’ command line tool as it is explained in SVNBook. As ‘svnadmin’ tool is not present in TortoiseSVN, some additional work is needed.

Finally I did in following way:

  1. download and  Tigris build of SVN (it was svn-win32-1.6.1.zip in my case). I’ve tried both 1.5.x and 1.6.x version of CollabNet’s SVN but apparently they do not support local BDB as well,
  2. unpack it to any directory, and using command line enter to the bin subdirectory where the svnadmin.exe tool is stored
  3. as written in the book, make dump of your repository with following command:
  4. svnadmin dump c:\FullPathToOldRepository > dumpfile.bin
  5. create new repository in choosen directory, you can use TorotoiseSVN for it as well, now it won’t ask you for data storage format as BDB is disabled, so it will use FSFS.
  6. import dump data into new repository:
  7. svnadmin load c:\FullPathToNewRepository < dumpfile.bin

That is, it worked for me like a charm.

Ulduar heroic clear

Being occupied lately (?!), I’ve not so much time for personal entertainment, but thanks to my World Of Warcraft guild The Sentenced, I can help them with my Druid’s healing even on semi casually basis. And I was honored to be present during first guild kill of the final boss Yogg-Saron of lately introduced Ulduar instance. Comparing to other bosses in Ulduar, Yogg-Saron requires a lot of focus, team work and accepts no mistakes. But it is greatly designed fight, with a lot of emotions especially in the last phase with hard-hitting add spawns and enrage timer ticking. Anyway, we did it, as the first Horde guild on our realm (3rd on server) and big kudos for everyone that participated in that fight.

However, there is one more bonus boss in Ulduar – Algalon. But accessing him is only possible after completing some hard modes of other bosses and then, the Algalon is present for only one hour per instance reset (per week). Thus it will take some time to get to him and to kill him.

Undo send in Gmail

The guys at Google Labs are very active lately. This time they’ve created a very useful option to Gmail – ‘Undo send‘. If you activate this feature, you will have 5 seconds after sending of each email to cancel it. Infact the email message is being hold for those 5 secs and then send.Very simple yet very helpful.

Smashing Magazine has published great list of Subversion related resources, including tools, books, articles links, hosting offers etc.  It’s definitely worth checking especially for those that still don’t use any version controlling system.

Our 16 years old doggie Bari has passed away. He was living with our family from the moment he was 2 weeks old or so. Since then he was around all the time with his wise eyes, changing mood and endless happiness every day we were back from work or shop. He was so  wise dog – no crazily barking at everything in sight range. And now he is no more :( :( :(

Bari we miss you so much :( :( :(

As while testing some GTD solutions I was using Nozbe for some time – I sometimes get their newsletter regarding Nozbe or other interesting GTD stuff. In latest newsletter there was an introduction to 1st issue of their free Productive! Magazine. I have downloaded it and it is great ! There is an interview with David Allen (the creator of GTD), a lot of nice articles regarding task and time management like Zen To Done, personal development, productivity tricks and so on. Give it a try, it is worth it :)

ps. photo taken from here.

The only one real disadvantage of the Gmail service for me was it’s very basic design. I’m not a software aesthetic – I prefer functionality over the look, but I like when something nice does look good as well :) The fine example of this is Microsoft Money software that has great design and functionality. And yesterday in the evening, after logging in to my Gmail account I got a small pop-up that the theme support is now available as an additional Tab. At first I was thinking it is a some new Stylish extension. But then I found that at least Google team has implemented some beauty into Gmail by themselves. There are variety of themes – most of them ale light and very nice. Big advantage over Stylish is performance – f.e. using ‘Gmail Redesigned’ Stylish theme was a little unpleasant on the slower computers, but the theme itself looks great and would be warmly welcomed by me in Gmail itself. Anyway, thanks Google, you’ve made my day and please introduce a good ToDo application ! :)
