On their newly introduced Google Speed page they have published a list of best practices, tutorials, tools and advices to make web faster with help of all of us, the people involved in creating the Web. Personally I’m big fan of such initiatives as they aim to improve quality of our work and as a final effect – improve web as a whole.

The only one real disadvantage of the Gmail service for me was it’s very basic design. I’m not a software aesthetic – I prefer functionality over the look, but I like when something nice does look good as well :) The fine example of this is Microsoft Money software that has great design and functionality. And yesterday in the evening, after logging in to my Gmail account I got a small pop-up that the theme support is now available as an additional Tab. At first I was thinking it is a some new Stylish extension. But then I found that at least Google team has implemented some beauty into Gmail by themselves. There are variety of themes – most of them ale light and very nice. Big advantage over Stylish is performance – f.e. using ‘Gmail Redesigned’ Stylish theme was a little unpleasant on the slower computers, but the theme itself looks great and would be warmly welcomed by me in Gmail itself. Anyway, thanks Google, you’ve made my day and please introduce a good ToDo application ! :)
